About Us

Designer Rene Aveyard held three things at the forefront as she created Mazu: top quality fabrics, simplistic designs and conscious construction.

South African born and raised Rene’s first foray in the working world was in investment banking. Living in London for many years and after travelling the world she settled in New Zealand where she started the journey into her life-long love – studying fashion. After co-owning a clothing store in Cambridge for ten years, in 2020 she moved further in her fashion journey and created Mazu.

Understanding a woman’s form and how to flatter the silhouette, Rene’s aspiration with her label is to make women feel beautiful, strong and empowered. The word Mazu holds roots in Chinese – sea goddess – and Japanese – first, in the first place.

With a strong belief against fast fashion and its environmental affects, Mazu pieces are crafted to transcend seasons. With exceptional attention to detail, they’re pieces to be treasured in your wardrobe forever.

Timeless, elegant, feminine - it’s all synonymous with Mazu.
